Why Tennis?

I know what it’s like to begin again.

After a difficult season in my own life, tennis became much more than exercise. It became a place where I rebuilt my confidence, challenged myself, made lifelong friends, and discovered a healthier, happier version of myself.

That journey continues today.

I believe tennis has an incredible way of strengthening not only our bodies, but also our resilience, confidence, and joy.

It’s never too late to discover what this game can give you.

Why Adults Enjoy Learning with Me

Learning something new as an adult takes courage. It also takes thoughtful instruction, genuine encouragement, and a teacher who knows how to break complex skills into manageable steps.

For more than thirty years, teaching has been at the heart of my professional life. Before becoming a PTR Level 1 Certified Tennis Instructor, I built a career as an opera singer, college music professor, Director of Music and choir director, pianist, and private voice and piano instructor.

Those experiences continue to shape the coach I am today. They taught me how to adapt to different learning styles, help people work through frustration, build confidence gradually, and recognize the small victories that lead to meaningful progress.

Whether I’m helping someone prepare for a performance or develop a more dependable forehand, my approach remains the same: patient, encouraging, structured, and centered on the person standing in front of me.

I’m proud to serve as an Assistant Coach with Buddy Up Tennis for athletes with Down syndrome, captain a 3.5 Tri-Cities League team, and remain an active member of the Sarasota tennis community.

Teaching has always been my life’s work.

Tennis simply became my newest classroom.
